The liver also plays a major role in digestion and metabolism, and if your liver is struggling, you will often feel tired just after lunch, or mid-afternoon and sometimes wake awake around 3am as these are the times that the liver does much of this work. If you’re struggling with liver fatigue, you will usually have good energy levels in the morning and the evening, but can often feel like going to sleep in the middle of the day. Sometimes people rely coffee or other caffeinated drinks to give them the boost they need to get through this period of time.
Due to poor liver detoxification, you will often find symptoms such as brain fog, or difficulty concentrating, this can often be worse in the early afternoon, and clear by the evening. Poor detoxification can also lead to headache and migraines. Whilst there are so many causes of headaches, often if the liver is involved, a minor headache can be improved with increased water intake.
Traditionally irritability, anger, and frustration are the emotions of the liver, and you may find yourself feeling generally irritable, or that you may ‘fly off the handle’ easily. Sometimes the best information on this can be found by asking those closest to you, although you may not like the answer they give!
