FAQ

Naturopathy

What does a naturopath do?

A naturopath treats health issues with natural medicines, such as herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, and homeopathy. This is done with a holistic approach to your body to treat the cause and strengthen the whole body.

How do naturopathic appointments different to other healthcare appointments?

We take time to find out the details of your health so that we can accurately prescribe. There is recent Australian research that shows that naturopathy does extremely well in a category called, “patient centred care”.

Will I be required to make difficult diet and lifestyle changes?

Usually not, we encourage small sustainable changes. If your health issues are as a result of diet and lifestyle choices, you will need to make changes, but we’re here to support you through this process.

Products

Is there scientific research on the products you prescribe?

Many of the products have strong scientific evidence for being effective. Each year the amount of research on natural medicines increases.

How is a naturopath different to a nutritionist?

Both a naturopath and a nutritionist use diet and nutritional supplements to treat health issues. A naturopath also uses herbal medicine and homeopathy. Often a nutritionist will have more of a focus on diet than a naturopath.

How is a naturopath different to a herbalist?

We both prescribe herbs and are trained in herbal medicine. To most people, herbs are used to flavour food: basil, thyme, garlic, onion, etc. Whilst these herbs can help with your health, what we and herbalists prescribe is much more concentrated and there are over 100 herbs available, most of which are not commonly known.

Cost

Is naturopathy covered by private health insurance?

In 2019 the Australian government removed health insurance rebates for many natural therapies. In 2020 the process of reviewing this decision began and we are hoping the will be reinstated soon.

Is seeing a naturopath worth the cost?

Yes, if it improves your health and life, which it very often does.

How much will products cost me?

Usually after an appointment the products will cost between $50 and $100. It can be more if you would rather take a supplement than change your diet. We can work to any budget, and can make significant changes to your health with diet and lifestyle changes.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes, if you are a pensioner, let us know and we will discount your appointment.

Our Clinic

How many times will I need to see you?
It really depends! But we want you back on your feet as quickly and easily as possible, so we only see you as often and for as long as what is best for your health.
How is your business working towards a sustainable future?
Firstly, as Naturopaths we are committed to the preservation of herbs for future generations and only use endangered herbs if no other options are available.
Wherever possible items are posted with reused packaging, or paper products.
Here at Whole Naturopathy, you can bring back your empty herb or homeopathy bottle and cream jar to be refilled. Please wash it with soapy water and rinse with cooled boiled water.
Can I collect prescription items from you after a Telehealth appointment?

Yes, you can. Products will be available for collection from Providence Foods (Mountain Gate Shopping Centre, Ferntree Gully).

Referrals

How do I know if you can help with my specific health issues?

We can help with most health issues, and will refer you on to someone else if they are a better fit. Give us a call or send a message for more details.

Do you offer further testing?

Naturopaths do basic physical examinations such as blood pressure and pulse. We also look at tongue and nail signs. If pathology testing is required, we will refer you to your doctor so that it is covered by Medicare. We do offer functional testing through an external lab for additional information.

Can you help with muscle or bone issues?

Yes we can. Since every cell in your body is strengthened by the fuel available, nutrition plays an important role in structural issues, and other natural treatments can help with the healing process. In most cases, we would work together with a manual therapies practitioner for best results.
